Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach - Foam Lottery, 10' Onshores Bang Bells

Andy Surfing Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach

How was the degree of difficulty on the first day of Bells? Like a snowboarding Black Run, on a moving mountain of mud and grease.

Yep, Good Friday gave a good shellacking to a host of blokes today as 10'of fan-forced onshores swept into the bay.

Royden Bryson watched Pancho get one of the waves of the morning (a 3m bomb which he uncoiled and detonated across for the length of the bay) from high in the carpark.

Royden, who'd surfed earlier in the morning, summed up the situation: "It's pretty wild out there. There's a fair bit of luck in it. I caught one wave and when I paddled back out and sat on my board it started to wobble and I realised I had a huge crease in it. There wasn't enough time to go back in and get another board. Not today."

Mick tripped up in his first round, but when the sets came his way in Round 2 he went stone cold crackers.

Further testimony of "when the rideable waves come, so do the scores", came from local wildcard Troy Brooks. Brooko didn't get the waves in his first round, ending with a 5-something; but in Round Two he was in the right spot and took down Dingo with a convincing 16.1.

Whereas Fanning and Durbo also stumbled in the foam jungle in their first round heats, they returned to clobber their second round wild card opponents, supergrom Stuart Kennedy and Hedgey respectively.

Others to have cherries in their eyes on the first day of 'foam lotto' included; Slater, Ace & Andy who stood out like hammered thumbs in front of a huge crowd of enthralled Melbournite holidaymakers.
