HAWAIIANS DOMINATE IN INDO

Brucey Downs Freddy In Search Final Photos: Shield

Brucey Downs Freddy In Search Final

It shouldn't really be that much of a surprise ... two Hawaiians reaching the final at a tropical left-hand reefbreak.

Bruce, who hangs on this island for a chunk of each year, treated the Racecourse line-up the same unencumbered way he would a good day in Kauai, and was absolutely devastating all event.

While Kelly was dismissed yesterday by a rampaging Tiago Pires (another man who thrives in spiky-bottomed lefts), the rest of the favourites weren't able to take a free kick, with Bede, Mick, Parko, Andy and Taj all falling on their own sword.

An element of welcome chaos has reigned over the last two days, with the vast echoing space of the Uluwatu line-up really opening up this event; there was more than one place to sit, waves popped up and broke differently on each different section. And no one capitalised on the randomness of the sets better than Bruce.

The scene at Ulus this afternoon and all event has been phenomenal, and it ended fittingly in the final, with Bruce and Fred riding the same wave in with a golden postcard sunset and fishing boats in the background; while competitors and fans necked Bintangs and laughed with the locals.

So, break out the Arak, it's going to be a helluva huge evening in the back alleys of Kuta.
